Vichy Idealia Eyes

It was a pleasant surprise when I received this little tube a few weeks ago. I’ve been a big fan of the Vichy Idealia range for well over a year – see previous reviews of the Idealia Life Serum, Smoothing & Illuminating Moisturiser and BB Cream! – and still swear by the serum, so I was really pleased to see that Vichy have released a new addition to the range specifically for eyes; the not so imaginatively named Vichy Idealia Eyes*.

Vichy Idealia Eyes is not, as I first assumed, an eye cream. It’s an ‘eye contour idealiser’ – what now? Well, to put it in its simplest terms, I suppose it’s closest relative is Smashbox BB Cream for Eyes, only with less pigment and more hardcore skincare credentials coming from a brand like Vichy. Falling into the same skincare-makeup fusion category as the Idealia BB Cream, Vichy Idealia Eyes aims to provide all the features of an eye cream with a Touche Eclat-style illumination.

Again, much like the Smashbox BB Cream for Eyes, this claims to both immediately and sustainably improve the appearance of the eye area, although Vichy go for the much more diplomatic description of ‘rejuvenation’ rather than blatant ‘improvement’. Semantics side, it’s infused with Vitamin B3 to reduce dark circles, Vitamin CG to smooth fine lines and caffeine to energise, while a good dose of Vichy’s ubiquitous signature Thermal Spa Water provides a refreshing sensation.

I’m not quite sold on the ‘revolutionary’ silicone applicator, though. The admittedly soft and flexible applicator is designed to mimic the touch of a finger, but it definitely feels unmistakably plastic-y to me. The suggested method of use for Vichy Idealia Eyes is to dispense a small amount of product onto the applicator by squeezing the tube, and spreading it from the inner to outer corner of the undereye area, and back again – back and forth until the product is fully absorbed. Personally, I much prefer spreading once with the applicator and blending in with my actual finger. Each to their own, I guess.

Like all Vichy products, Idealia Eyes is paraben and fragrance free, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic (that means it doesn’t clog your pores) and, since it’s an eye product and all, ophthalmologically tested (that means the eye doctor people say it’s alright). If you’re interested in trying it out, you can currently pick it up with 33% off in Escentual‘s ever-popular French Pharmacy Promotion until the end of October, making it a reasonable £15.33 rather than its usual RRP of £23.
