Bourjois Shine Edition Lipstick

You may remember me declaring my love for Bourjois’ Rouge Edition Lipsticks back in February. Well, this summer sees the release of the Bourjois Shine Edition* lipsticks – enhanced for comfort and moisturisation with plenty of on-trend glossiness.

Pretty packaging, right? You might be wondering about the pastel coloured accents on the lids and casing – all 8 shades of the new Bourjois Shine Edition lipsticks are designed to match perfectly with one of 4 new shades of One Seconde Nail Enamel which will be released at the same time. Cute idea! I really like the sleek mirrored silver finish on these too – very appropriate for the glossy finish of the product.

These Shine Editions aren’t awfully similar to my beloved Rouge Edition ones at all, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love these too. They just offer something different. Whereas Rouge Edition was all about creamy, highly pigmented colour in a matte finish, these are quite the opposite with a more sheer, summery level of pigment in a richly moisturising and, you guessed it, shiny formula. They’re designed to offer the comfort of a balm, which they most certainly do thanks to the inclusion of nourishing mango butter extract, but the colour payoff is much more than what you would get with any other tinted balm. They claim to offer up to 10 hours of moisturisation which I have to say is a bit of a stretch (especially when you consider the colour lasts on the lips for about 4 hours max), but I’m not complaining.

Bourjois Shine Editions are a dream to apply; they literally melt on contact with the lips and the feeling as you swipe it over your lips is nothing short of delicious. The colour is sort of sheer, but definitely buildable – in the swatches below I’m wearing two swipes of each colour to reach my desired intensity. They last surprisingly well for something with this sort of formula. As mentioned above I get about 4 hours out of them, but don’t expect them to last at all through eating or drinking.

Bourjois Shine Edition Lipsticks | 1, 2, 3 Soleil (20) | Summer 2013

This is 1, 2, 3 Soleil – love this name! Love to colour too – a vibrant and brilliant coral which is perfect for the summer months. This looks really fresh teamed with a bit of turquoise in the eye makeup.

Bourjois Shine Edition Lipsticks | Famous Fuchsia (22) | Summer 2013

This is Famous Fuchsia – and I have to apologise for all my photos of this. It’s coming across way too red in the product shots and on the lip swatch, it’s definitely a fuchsia that does lean a bit towards the red side but not so much as it’s coming across here. It would look stunning paired with a pop of gold on the lower lashline.

Bourjois Shine Edition Lipsticks | Rose xoxo (24) | Summer 2013

This is Rose xoxo – my personal favourite in terms of both the colour and the name (which makes me think of Georgie aka Beauxoxo!). You don’t see a lot of lip colours with a silver pearlescence, gold is much more common but this really suits my skintone. Again, incorporate a bit of turquoise into your eye makeup with this one for a super summery look!

Overall I really like these and can see myself reaching for them a lot when summer finally arrives. They lend themselves so well to a fresh-faced summer look. There’s a pink shade called Oh My Doll that I’ve definitely got my eye on!

Bourjois Shine Edition Lipsticks will be out mid-July 2013 in Boots and Superdrug (as well as online at both stores). They’ll cost £7.99 like the Rouge Editions.

Will you be taking a closer look at the Bourjois stand when they’re released?

  1. Wow! These look gorgeous, and I really like the idea that more brands are embracing the “balm and lipstick” concept :) Can’t wait!

  2. These look nice, I still need to check out the Rouge Editions too.
I’m not sure if its an app, but on your previous post tweets, it seems to repeat quite a lot of them (Stila primer 3 times, R&L brushes 4 times, Speckled eyeliner 5 times), unless you are directing people to popular posts, if so ignore me!

    1. You’re right – so sorry about that! It is an app, well a WordPress plugin that automatically tweets old posts. I need to fiddle about with the settings so it doesn’t repeat the same ones too frequently!
