Question of the Week: Skincare Routines

Last Week’s Answers from a Fornight ago!

Zoe said… “I keep my makeup brushes in a decorated plant pot..HAHA. It works, it looks cute..it cost me 50p from a bootsale. Bargainus!”
Haha, my brushes are in an old shiny purple plant pot and a charity shop square vase, bargains are better then shelling out for proper brush holders!

Carla said… “Um…I hardly ever clean my brushes. After a bad mishap ruining all of mine a while ago I don’t really clean them now at all…I rarely use brushes anyway and if I do I am the only one who uses them…I’d prefer to never clean them and just re-buy them occasionally.”
That’s sort of my philosophy.. if you’re the only one who uses them it can’t be that bad, right?

Nathalie said… “I clean my brushes after every use. I do that for hygienic reason and they make a better job when they’re clean, anyway. It’s a fast and automatic routine just as easy and usual as washing my hands. I use classical Marseille soap bar and water and so far it is working fine. I remove the excess of water and reshape them with a towel and let them dry in a pencil metal pot in the bathroom. They’re generally dry before the night.”
You’re in better habits than most of us, then! I should wash my foundation brush every day, I think, ’cause I notice that on it’s first use after I’ve washed it it makes SUCH a difference!

This week we turn the question to skincare…

Walk us through your skincare routine. Are you religious about it, or are you a bit lazy? What are your favourite products, and which ones have you not liked so much? Are you just a cleanse/moisturise-and-go kinda girl or do you go the whole hog with face masks, toner and all that jazz?

I don’t think I have much of a ‘routine’ as such when it comes to skincare… the only thing I really use on a daily basis is moisturiser. I take my makeup off with Nivea cleansing wipes, and I exfoliate my face in the shower a couple of times a week with whatever’s on hand. I very rarely use face masks or anything like that, mainly because I’m too lazy! The only thing I do every morning and every night without fail is moisturise. My ultimate favourite moisturiser is Garnier UltraLift but it’s so bloody hard to find now, they seem to be phasing it out and replacing it with UltraLift Pro which I don’t like nearly as much. Currently, though, I’m using Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion and am liking it more than I expected (yes there’ll be a review at some point in the future, I’m not rushing though, I’m sure you’ve seen plenty on it!).

Yknow, I’m trying to think of more I can write but there’s really not much else to say… my ‘skincare routine’ basically consists of twice-daily moisturising! Although I have to confess that every now and then I’m either too tired or I forget to moisturise before bed – this typically happens when I’m staying with the boy!

So, what about you? Are you a skincare nut or are you blessed enough that you don’t need to worry too much? Spill!

  1. I should worry more but DAAAAAAAAAAMN am I LAZY!! I wash my face with whatever’s on sale at the grocery store and rarely moisturize. I used to be really intense about it and buy expensive stuff, but those things like rent and electricity have become more important. I’m afraid I’m becoming responsible. Ugh.

  2. I should also worry, but I am lazy, too!
I was just thinking of this topic last night. I really do want to find a couple good products to use with my skincare routine. As for my skin care routine now, I don’t have one!

  3. I don’t know if you’ve read my recent post on my lackadaisical approach to my skincare, but as I’m now frequently get breakouts around my chin and throat I thought it was time to sort myself out. I’m currently now cleansing once a day with Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish, using Liz Earle’s toner and moisturising with Clean & Clear’s oil free daily moisturiser. I don’t cleanse morning and night because my skin is sensitive and prone to drying out very quickly, and find this is enough for my skin.

Funnily enough when I was younger I was religous with my cleanse, tone and moisturise routine but then work took over and I became far too tired and lazy to keep it up. I’m trying again now though.

On another note, I was meant to receive the Skin MD Shielding Lotion (twice) but it has never arrived – I’m quite sad about it, really. :( x

  4. I have a routine but mainly stick to a few products. I use the No7 Beautifully Balanced Face Wash in the morning and at night and moisturise with the Garnier Pure A Moisturiser. I use the St Ives scrub with a bit of Soap&Glory Flake Away to exfoliate a few times a week and thats about it! I hardly ever use toner and use cheap makeup wipes when im feeling lazy x
    xx

  5. I always find if I use too many products I break out so I keep it nice and simple :-) S&G the greatest scrub of all a couple of times a week, whatever face wash is in the shower and clinique 3 step on most mornings, or a big blob of garniers fresh moisturiser followed by hastily applied makeup if i’m running late! xx

  6. I’m obsessed with scrubs!! Right now I’m using Philosophy’s Micro exfoliating Daily Scrub and Hope in a Jar moisteriser. On the weekend I also throw in the microexfoliating peel mask thing from Philosophy. I also like Kiehls cleanser and moisteriser. But I’m so bad at washing my face at night! Terrible girl.

  7. I think you know already that Im obsessed with looking after my skin and preventing them wrinkles haha, so I do follow a pretty strict routine. I take my make up off every night with Boots Botanics eye make up remover, then a face wipe to remove my facial make up. I then cleanse with No.7 Hot Cloth Cleanser, followed by my eye cream, my serum then my moisturiser.

In the mornings, I wash with a fash wash then follow the same routine of eye cream, serum then moisturiser. I use a face mask twice a week and exfoliate 2-3 times a week too.

    xxx

  8. I am the laziest person that is going to comment on this post, I can guarantee it. I don’t do anything with my skin apart from put moisturiser on before my foundation and if it is looking particularly dry. *whispers* I don’t even take my make up off on a night. I just use make up wipes on a morning.

I think it is because I have pretty good skin – I hardly ever get spots, and its always been this way. I just probably feel I don’t need to do it?! I do sometimes try and start routines – especially like after The Body Shop event as we were given like whole ranges of skincare products and I was like right! I’m starting it now! I’m going to use them all and remember! and it lasts like a week if that before I’m just like …. ahhh I’m tired, forget it….

    I’m bad, and I don’t care!

    xoxo

  9. Lol@some of the replies here, at least you lot are honest!

I think I’m good in the day but come the night, I just can’t be arsed really. In the morning, I wash my face, exfoliate (frequency depends on which scrub I’m using, if Biore, every day is great, if Korres, then once a week works a charm), eye cream, moisturise and foundation. If you find skincare stuff that works for you, you need less makeup..I know that everyone knows this but I only figured it out a few months ago. I get my oily bits (that sounds SO wrong) under control and then don’t need much foundation.

If I do wear foundation then in the evening I use the Clarins Pure Melt Gel but you need too much and it’s not cheap! Then I usually wait for my skin to dry, use a face wipe which adds moisture but doesn’t make me greasy and I’m off to bed!

If I don’t wear foundation then I whack on some Aqueous cream and sleep.

  10. Shit man this might be long (I think!).. Face wash, exfoliate (I LOVE HAVING A BABY SOFT FACE!!) and then a spritz of Bodyshop’s Vit E toner stuff – makes my face extra soft and supple and ready for moisturiser.. then goes on moisturiser (OLAY BABY!) and I think…. that’s it! If I can’t be bothered to use a face wash to cleanse off my makeup I’ll use a face wipe.

In the moooooooooorn’.. Splash face with lukewarm water, then quick wipe of a cotton wool over face with some toner and then moisturiser!

If my face is EXTRA annoying n dry I’ll add a few drops of Bodyshop’s vitamin E oil to the mix of moisturiser.. woooo!
